Trope Tutor courses are designed for anyone who wants to learn the art of Torah and Haftarah cantillation or work as a b’nei mitzvah tutor! Our courses teach all the requisite skills for learning to chant a Torah portion and essential strategies for working in a synagogue with b’nei mitzvah students.
All Trope Tutor courses are self-directed and every student has as long as they need to complete the course.
Each course is self-contained and can be done without any of the others, however if you are doing all three courses we strongly encourage students to begin with How to Chant Torah.
Trope Tutor courses are entirely pre-recorded and students are encouraged to move at their own pace through the material.
Yes, each enrollment is for one student. At this time, only one enrollment can be purchased per transaction.
Strong Hebrew reading skills are essential to the Trope Tutor courses. You do not need conversational or Biblical Hebrew knowledge.
We teach the Reform Movement’s standard of cantillation, as taught in The Art of Torah Cantillation: Volumes 1 and 2 by Cantors Marshall Portnoy and Josee Wolff.
Absolutely! “How to be an Amazing B’nei Mitzvah Tutor” teaches tactics and strategies for supporting students in a variety of situations, irrespective of any particular requirements such as number of aliyot, use of transliteration, or specific prayers. The course even includes a worksheet that new tutors can bring to their cantor/rabbi/educator/supervisor to learn the specifics of your temple’s b’nei mitzvah program requirements.
